POLICE SEIZE HUGE CACHE OF BROWN SUGAR

Virajpet police have seized a huge cache of brown sugar worth rupees one crore and arrested three persons.

In a neatly laid police trap, Pandian, a resident of Chennai, settled in Gonicoppal, Appaneravanda Umesh, running a Bar at Gonicoppal and Ramesh a resident of Somwarpet - Surlabbi, settled at Gonicoppal were arrested in a newly opened hotel room yesterday night along with the cache.

According to police, DySP Annappa Naika, Circle Inspector Shailendra and Sub Inspector Santosh approached the accused as buyers in disguise and threw an offer of twenty two lakhs. The accused were taken to custody along with 810 grams of brown sugar.

Superintendent of police Manjunath Annigeri is rushing to the spot now. Police said that the SP will issue official press release after his arrival.

POLICE SPOIL ESCAPE BID BY A PRISONER;

Police foiled an escape bid by a murder accused here yesterday.

In a filmy style, a murder accused Harish from Madapur raced towards a parked car at court premises as he was produced before the court. An alert police captured him as he forcing himself into a car which was about to move. He was packed back to the prison after producing before the judge. His friend, Manoj, who had kept the car engine running to flee bolted out and escaped.

Harish had hired a car during 2002 and shot dead the driver Hanif to cover a crime. He was arrested and lodged in the prison. Yesterday he was being produced before the district and sessions court. He was washing hands after lunch in the court premises and suddenly bolted towards his friend’s car, parked near the gate. Though the car engine was in running position, the driver got nervous and took to his feet, leaving the car and his accused friend.

Town sub inspector Durga rushed to the spot and seized the car. Police dragnet is spread to arrest the escaped Manoj.

MISUSE OF FUNDS AT GRAM PANCHAYATH

Vice president of Sunticoppa Gram panchayath, M.A.Usman has accused the president of misusing funds and lodged a complaint WITH THE Zilla Panchayath and the local MLA Appachu ranjan.

Usman has complained that the Panchayath funds are illegally transferred into the accounts of the president Karim and payments are done through him.

It was alleged that funds are diverted to various fake accounts and work contracts are also given by over looking the norms.

PROTEST PLANNED AGAINST CHESCOM

Various organizations led by Deshapremi Yuvaka Sanga have organized a huge protest against CHESCOM on March first.

Addressing a press conference here, Arun Shetty, president of the deshpremi Youvaka Sanga said that a procession is organized from Chowdeshwari temple to the CHESCOM office in the morning. He said that Kodagu is deprived of power in spite of her contribution to the state exchequer.

President of the Jayakarnataka Organisation, prasanna Bhat spoke on the occasion and said that their organization is also supporting the protest.

Commenting on the statement by a BJP spokesperson that people who opposed Hydro electric projects in the district have no right to ask for power, prasanna Bhat said that it is a statement against the right of the people.
