NAPOKLU COLOURED WITH KANNADA FLAG

The tiny town Napoklu at the foot hill of the tallest mountain Tadiandamolu in Kodagu turned colorful today with the taking off of the fourth Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan.

The Sammelan chairman K.P.Balasubramanya was taken out in a colourful procession in an open jeep. District Sahitya Parishath president T.P.Ramesh, Zilla parishat member’s Manu Muthappa and Boverianda Raghu Achaiah accompanied Balasubramanya.

Slogans of Kannada echoed the clear blue sky. Raghu Achaiah inaugurated the procession which began from Haletaluku by firing at the air. Tableaux of Kannada Bhvaneshwari, cultural sequences, pictures of kannada doyens and poets, Veeragase, dollukunita, daff dance, men and women attired with Kodava traditional dresses, scouts and guides, members of the Sree Shakthi and various organizations, educational cut outs from departments, folk dances in the long procession turned the town into a venue of festivity.

The two kilometer procession which began through the Mahadwaras of Udiyanda Somanna, M.M.Sadali, Biddatanda Madappa, Kunchettira Nanjunda, Kotera Muthanna, Koravanda Appaiah and assembled at the Junior college venue throughHaradasa Appacha Kavi Mahadwara.


BOPAIAH SPELLS OUT PLANS TO DEVELOP KODAGU

Speaker K.G.Bopaiah expressed that he will develop Kodagu in phases.

Talking to this correspondent, Bopaiah said that he wants to develop Kodagu as he is blessed with a rare opportunity of becoming the speaker. He spelled out plans to be initiated in phases.

A three year plan would be formed to take up developmental works, according to him.

He said that he will look into formation of roads inside the district, solve the drinking water problem. He informed that check dams would be built in all the places where water source exists so as to protect the spring. He opined that problems of drinking water and water for irrigation could be solved this way.

Talking about the acute power problem in the district, Bopaiah stated that queries raised by forest department in certain areas to pull high tension wires is stalling the new project to get alternate line and that will be solved within a week. He also assured that there will not be any voltage fluctuation in future. He said that the rupees twenty three crore Kunda Maistry drinking water project would be commenced in fifteen days time. He assured that the Genearl Thimmaiah memorial, Cultural Community hall schemes remaining in files would be translated into action. Regional Transport office will also be shifted to the new building, he said.

The speaker opined that the officals are in slumber and they will be alerted to work with speed. He said that the Deputy Commissioners office complex is being delayed even though the land is identified. He commented about the tardy functioning of Virajpet taluk office and said that such officials will be questioned and inspired to work effectively. He also mentioned that the First grade college buildings are also yet to be constructed, in spite of the existence of fund.

Reacting to the Athletic Track commissioned and then stalled at the stadium due to oppsition from groups, Bopaiah said that strict instructions are given to the Deputy commissioner to go ahead with the work. He is also told to police assistance, if required.

There are certain forces in the district which are obstructing development, he opined.

‘SHOULDER TO SHOULDER COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE’ BY DOCTORS FROM USA;

A team of eleven doctors from University of Ketuky, USA conducted a health camp for children below sixteen years at Ponnampet.

The University chose Ramakrishna Ashram Hospital at Ponnmapet to conduct the camp as a part of its yarly project in a western country. Every year the University establishes a health center in any one country and it choose India this year. The camp is a scouting to assess the need of the local community to have a permanent tie up to run a community health center. All investigations including lab, x ray and medicines would be provided free of cost by the team.

President of the Ashram, Swamy Jagadatmananda inaugurated the camp led by Professor Thomas Young, who led the team spoke and said that they wish to continue the service and assist the needy children. Team of doctors from Kodagu and Mysore Medical college were present. Dr.Ashik Chengappa, Dr.Devaiah, Dr.Cariappa from Kodagu took the initiative to organize the camp. Dr.Kokkanda Poonacha from Kodagu, resideng in kentuky was instrumental in getting the team to Kodagu. The team will conduct camps in two more parts in India and find out which place needs more health care and then establish its permanent center.
