ASHRAYA, INDIRA, AMBEDKAR SCHEMES FAIL IN VIRAJPET TALUKThe Taluk Panchayath meeting yesterday at Ponnampet observed that the Ashraya, Indira and Ambedkar schemes have totally failed to reach target. The meeting of the secretaries of Gram Panchayaths chaired by the Taluk panchayath president Sarita Poonacha observed that the schemes undertaken since four years have proved futile. She regretted that they were supposed to build 2273 houses by 2010 and only 1249 houses are built so far. 1842 houses should have been built under Ashraya scheme and only 1092 are ready since 2005. 61 houses should have been built under Ambedkar scheme and only 31 are ready. 309 houses should have been built under Indira Awaz scheme and only 126 are built. The president noted that rupees 379.02 lakhs was released for the total scheme and 322.8 lakhs were already spent. Only 56.18 lakh is remaining. While official lethargy is one of the reasons, corruption is also another reason. In many cases, the beneficiaries have taken the land and did not utilize the money for construction. CEO Dr.Nagaraju has asked the officials to speed up the work and finish the target. He has also instructed to file a report about the beneficiaries who have misused the benefit. President asked the secretaries to build six thousand toilets in villages in the next three months. She also informed the meeting that the Panchayaths can spend funds from the employment scheme to chase elephants entering agriculture land and villages. It has been successful in many villages as village teams are formed for the purpose. It was brought to the notice of the meeting that the secretaries of the halugunda Gram panchayath zone , Somaiah and Muthanna were suspended as they showed zero development in employment scheme. New secretyaries are appointed with the instruction to reach target. |
