ASHWINI DENIES ALLEGATIONS;

Madikeri January 19, 2010

National athlete Ashwini Nachappa has denied having misused her fame to fetch sanction of rupees two crore for the Synthetic Astro Turf to her school KALS at Gonicoppal.

Reacting to the protest held against the government decision to allot money to her Sports Foundation yesterday by various organizations, Ashwini has said in a press release that her Sports Foundation was launched way back in 2006 and it did not take birth to seek the present benefit, as alleged by the protestors.

Ashwini Nachappa has clarified that the government had put condition not to commercialize the Synthetic Turf ground and she had agreed for the conditions and would have allowed government tournaments and practices to go on in the ground. She said that it was a project of rupees 5.6 crore and government was releasing only rupees two crores in the first phase. She has opined that if P.T.Usha could be given crores of rupees, why people should oppose the move by the government when it has come forward to help her.

Ashwini said that it was she who had proposed Synthetic Turf ground to South Kodagu and speaker K.G.Bopaiah is aware of it.

An action committee is formed here yesterday to oppose the move by the government and to get the Synthetic Turf ground to Ponnampet Junior College Grounds.

The government has released rupees five crores to the City Municipal Council here under Chief Ministers Fund.

The commissioner Srikanth Rao disclosed here today that the amount was released to take up developmental works. He said that another set of rupees five crores would be released if the projects are undertaken on time. The works would be designed and commissioned as per the decisions taken in the next meeting, he said.
