ELECTIONS TO BJP DISTRICT POSTS IN DOLDRUMMadikeri January 20, 2010 Like in the state, the Bharatiya Janatha Party here also suffers set back in choosing presidents in taluk and district level. Even though the term of the committees are over, party finds it difficult to arrive at consensus. The district president Sunil Subramani, whose term is over is continue to hold the post as there are quite a few candidates striving for the post. Shanteyanda Ravi Kushalappa, manu Muthappa, M.B.Devaiah, Ravi Basappa, B.D.Manjunath and Bellu Somaiah are trying for the post. However, according to political experts, Ravi Kushalappa has every chance to become the district president. Kunjangada Arun Bhimaiah, Puliyanda Bopanna and Ranjan Chengappa are eying at the Virajpet taluk committee president’s post. C.P.Gopal, Bharatish and Takeri Ponnappa are trying for the Madikeri taluk committee presidentship. Inner difference in the party came to light recently as Arun Kumar was elected as the president for Madikeri Town Committee. Though he was elected, statements were being issued by another faction stating that the election is unfair and Arun Kumar cannot continue as the president. The differences are so thick in the party that only state leaders should come and monitor the elections. GRAM PANCHAYATH TO HOLD DHARNAPresident of the Kedakal Gram Panchayath has told that they will hold dharna before Deputy Commissioner’s office on this 22nd. President Balakrishna Rai held a press conference here yesterday and alleged that the Zilla Panchayath and KPTCL have been ignoring the needs of the people and have falied to provide power and a motor to draw water to be supplied to about seventy families around Haleri. He said that repeated appeal to the authorities have fallen on deaf ears and the people are suffering without drinking water. Though the pipe line is also drawn through the panchayath, power connection is not being given since years. SAHITYA SAMMELAN KICK STARTSMadikeri January 20, 2010 The seventh District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan kick started colourfully today at shanivarsanthe. Dr.M.G.Nagaraj, presiding over the Sammelan appreciated Kodagu for its service in the field of Kannada literature. He named the writers and poets who pumped life to the rich culture and folk lore of Kodagu. He also said that people of Kodagu have etched a niche in the fields of military, journalism and sports. Nagaraj opined that the culture of Kodagu should remain and people should strive hard to protect the unity and integrity with which Kodagu is seen. He said that the field of education, condition of roads, and shortage of drinking water should be addressed well in Kodagu. He informed that river Cauvery existed even before the genesis of Arabian Sea or Mount everest. He revealed the fact that a branch of Cauvery ran through Africa from Kodagu and India to Madagascar. MLA Appachu Ranjan spoke on the occasion and said that the land and water of Karnataka should be protected and it is the responsibility of all the Kannadigas. Director of Kannada and Culture department, Manu Beligar spoke on the occasion and said that the foundation of Kannada is very strong and none can shake it. He also said that Kannadigas lack fighting spirit. He regretted that the original house of Field marshal Cariappa at Shanivarsanthe does not even have his picture. He assured to provide a oil painting of Cariappa and also assured to print a Kannada version of his life story written in English by his son K.C.Cariappa. Earlier, the sammelan president Dr.M.G.Nagaraj was taken out in a colourful procession in the main street. District Kannada Sahitya Parishath president T.P.Ramesh, MLA Appachu Ranjan, Parishath taluk committee presidents accompanied the procession. School children and Stree Shakthi members made the crowd and the Sammelan failed to attract public participation. |
