YOUTH DIES IN MISHAP

A youth died in a road mishap as his bike hit a jeep.

The incident was reported at Chonakere village near Napoklu.

Nitinkumar, 24 was riding motor bike and was hit by a jeep yesterday.

He collapsed with grievous injuries.

He was given first aid here and died on the way to Mangalore hospital.

THIS CALF LIVED FOR A NIGHT

High drama prevailed in a coffee estate at Mekur – Hoskeri near Pollibetta from saturday night as an elephant gave birth to a calf.

The estate owner Pramila Nanaiah noticed noise and disturbance inside the estate on the night of Saturday. She noticed a herd of elephants, numbering around eighteen surrounding a calf. She informed the forest officials about the incident and the herd left the calf on seeing the presence of human beings.

Forest staff and public who arrived at the spot noticed a male calf on the ground. It was found weak and was suffering. They tried to feed him milk and it did not swallow any.

The calf breathed its last by evening. Forest officials and public cremated the calf. Here was no sign of the herd so far.

MARATHON AGAINST TERRORISM

A marathon was held at Somwarpet yesterday to bring awareness against terrorism.

Large number of men and women, children took part in the marathon organized at Somwarpet.

President of the Somwarpet Gram Panchayath, Nalini Ganesh inaugurated the marathon at Jaycee platform by releasing pigeons into air. Participants covered about fifteen kilometers.

Shruthi from Shanthalli bagged first place in ladies wing. N.R.Arjun from Jakkanalli won the first place in mens wing and Kaushik from Shanthalli won the students wing.

About 450 participants took part. Janadwani Vedike had organized the Marathon.
