PHOTOS 1.REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS 2.CNC PROTEST NO ROADS: ALL POT HOLES IN SOUTH KODAGUMadikeri jan.26: The worst condition of roads in South kodagu has created tension for vehicle drivers for regular driving in Virajpet thaluk. The assurance by the public representatives and officers have b became night mare. The people who protested several times demanding the immediate repair of the roads are now fed up with the system. The assurances have become false and the statistics given by the concerned seems to be wrong. The public representatives and the district officers have assured that there is enough sanctions for the road repairs and shortly the repair work will start soon. Already three months gone after these assurances by them. When “Times” investigated all the figures announced by the concerned seem to be fictitious. The low level officers in the thaluk express there helplessness that no required money is available for the road repair in the thaluk, Earlier Chief Minister B.S.yediyurappa has assured that Rs. 10 crore will be releases as special package. But till this day no money is released..Ponnampet-Kutta road repair requires Rs.15 crore as per estimation .But according to source only Rs. 6.70 crore is sanctioned and the amount has not been released yet. The local PWD officials express grief that they could not start the work as they have just Rs. 97 lakh fund for the purpose and even a stretch of road could not be completely repaired. The official estimation shows a minimum requirement of Rs. 70 crore for the complete repair of 500 kms in south Kodagu. Ultimately the the road reaches kerala through Manandavadi, the border area. This is considered as highway, but seems to be worst than any of the rural roads. About 340 kms of district level road and 170 K.M of state high way is waiting for the complete repair if it has to be ready for motorable condition. The local people have reduced their traveling trips to avoid damage to their vehicles, loosing their health and also to control the heavy expense of fuel changing for higher gears and also to avoid accidents as the road width has reduced to single road and for overtaking or for side driving it has become an adventurous way.
