RUCKUS AT ZP MEETING; CONGRESS WALKS OUT

Madikeri January 27

Congress members of the Zilla Panchayath today boycotted the meeting by alleging that there is no quorum.

The congress members led by V.P.Shashidar took strong objections to conducting meeting with only sixteen members and demanded cancellation of the meeting. Hell broke loose as Shashidar began to run towards president and CEO to cancel the meeting. Ruling BJP members Manu Muthappa, Raja Rao and others took strong objection and demanded to send Shashidar out. The situation nearly reached fisticuffs. As BJP lady members began to shout that they need to continue meeting, Congress members walked out and squatted before the building and shouted slogans.

The members took objection in the beginning as the attendance book was kept outside the meeting hall for the members to sign. Shashidar said that they should follow the old tradition of taking the signature at the table. He also noticed that the book had the signature of the speaker K.G.Bopaiah. Bopaiah was not present in the meeting and the congress members called it a forgery and shouted ‘shame shame’.

Later a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Executive Officer Mirza Akbarulla urging him to cancel the meeting.

The MLA Appachu Ranjan spoke on the occasion and said that the presence of fifty percent of members makes quorum. President Vijaya continued the meeting in the absence of Congress members. The meeting decided to go on a delegation to urge the government release rupees 12.61 crore for the drinking water project in the district.

Vice president of the ZP, Kanjitanda Anitha was also present.
