WATER LEVEL SINKS IN KODAGUMadikeri July 13, 2010 Streams and rivers which usually overflow during July in Kodagu are sinking this year due to weak monsoon. Water level in Harangi registered 2826.98 feet yesterday against the last years 2833 feet. It has rained 689 mm in Kodagu till yesterday and the last years record shows 1.39.30 mm rainfall during last year. The scary farmers and agriculturists are continuing with their work as the crops will have great negative impact if the rain does not continue. LANDSLIDEA portion of the retaining wall caved in at madikeri yesterday. Madikeri received heavy rainfall yesterday afternoon and a portion, adjacent to private bus stand collapsed. Business community in the area has appealed to the authorities to take preventive measures as the landslide may cause havoc if it occurs again. PEOPLE PICKET ‘NEMMADI KENDRA’“Nemmadi kendra’ which is supposed to bring relief to the people seeking records has become a matter of disturbance. People standing in a long queue yesterday picketed the office and sraged a protest before Tahasildars office in protest. People had gathered for income certificates and RTCs before the ‘nemmadi Kendra” The staff behaved rudely with the people and did not provide the document with a silly statement that the computers are not working. People demanded immediate action as they had to produce income certificate in the schools to admit their children and the RTC to banks to acquire loan. As the staff replied rudely, they were beaten and got the office locked. The protestors complained that the tahasildar who listened to their complaint gave a diplomatic answer and left the office without giving any solution. The protestors said that the ‘Nemmadi kendra’ was started with a view that the people get their records immediately by avoiding delay. But the center here is taking days and weeks to provide them, testing their patience. They have demanded the authorities to switch back to the old system and issue records from taluk office itself. |
