ZP TO PROBE MISAPPROPRIATION;Madikeri July 15, 2010 The Zilla Panchayath yesterday decided to probe alleged misappropriation under NREG scheme and formed a committee to probe the misuse. The meeting chaired by president Vijaya discussed at length the irregularities and the vice president Kanjitanda Anita alleged that the former Chief Executive Officer had illegally placed orders to supply boards and Flexes to all the three talukas. She said that the contract to supply materials to propagate NREG information to a Mangalore based company by not following the norms.She suspected large scale misappropriation. Members Manu Muthappa and Raja Rao supported the view. Discussing it at length, the meeting decided to conduct a probe and formed a committee with vice president Anita to head it. Anita took to task the District health officer Shivaram Naik over lapses. She produced record and alleged that a government doctor posted to Pollibetta health center is absent since five years and the department is paying his salary. The doctor is said to be running a clinic at Chennarayapatna and the DHO has done nothing to make an enquiry. Health sub committee chairman manu muthappa stated that the doctor would be transferred to Siddapur as number of patients is less at Pollibetta. Meeting also decided to conduct a probe. CEO Ibrahim raised the issue and said that the DHO is not visiting primary health centers. Many PHCs have no security and equipments are not properly used. Members discussed various problems and shortage of staff in the department. It was decided to write to the government to fill the vacant posts. The meeting also discussed the problems being created due to Power problem and irresponsible functioning of CESC in tackling it. Meanwhile CEO Ibrahim has issued notice to officials against using cell phone during the meetings. SMOKERS UNDER ARRESTKodlipet police arrested ten persons for smoking in public yesterday. The arrested were found smoking in front of school, temple and other public places against the rules. They were fined rupees one hundred each and released. |
