CAUVERY RECEDING IN BETHRI

Madikeri July 16: River cauvery is receding to the bottom level in Bethri bridge near here. Last year Cauvery was over flown on the bridge on 16th July. Today one has to go down to get a little handy water!. Usually July is the heavy raining month. This year rainfall record shows just 43% till date compared to last year’s record on the same date.Last year the district record show average 48 inches of rainfall till date. This year it has reduced to just 28 inches.Due to drought conditions bamboo is getting a deadly disease which is a bad sign of drought according to village elders. Last year Harangi reservoir level raised to 2828 feet and this year it has just reached 2440 feet. According to official sources only 40% sowing of paddy is done. Transplanting of paddy may be postponed for long duration which will affect the production of paddy this year..Thalukwise statsitcs also reveals the lesser rainfall this year. In Somwarpet thaluk so for,18 inches of rainfall is recorded. Last year till the day it was29 inches. In Madikeri thaluk last year it was 66 inches and this year till today it is 40 inches. In Virajpet thaluk last year it was 49 inches and this year till today it is 26 inches.
