COFFEE PACKAGE BY NEXT MONTHMadikeri July 17, 2010 The announced coffee package would be implemented by August, according to coffee board member Tara Aiyyamma. Talking to this correspondent here, Tara Aiyyamma disclosed that the board chairman has directed the banks to implement it soon. A high level meeting in New Delhi was held on this 9th and the chairman of coffee board, Javed Aktar, secretaries from commerce ministry, high level bank officials and board members took part in the meeting, she said. According to her, the bankers in Kranataka will sit in a meeting on this 28th at Bangalore and draw a plan to implement the scheme. The package will allow waiver of loans to small growers’ up to 75%. Fifty percent would be borne by the centre and banks have to meet twenty five percent. Thara Aiyyamma informed that the centre has earmarked rupees 310 crores for the development of coffee industry in the II PROGRAMME. She opined that the government is interested in helping the traditional coffee growers rather than new comers who wish to start new plantation. She also said that the government is thinking of providing fifty percent subsidy to buy machineries related to coffee industry. THREE ARRESTED FOR MURDERING YOUTHVirajpet police arrested three persons for shooting a youth to death and hiding his body. The arrests were made yesterday as the skeleton of Cariappa, 30 was traced on a hillock four days ago. According to police, cariappa was taken to a hillock by K.Santosh, Yashwanth and kalappa of kuklur village near Virajpet forty five days ago and shot him to death. Personel enimity related to election was said to be the reason. Arresting the accused, police also seized a gun, motor cycle and the car used for the crime from the house of kalappa. Superintendent of police, manjunath annigeri visited the spot yesterday. The skeleton was identified by the mother of the deceased, Leena, who had lodged a complaint of missing and murder of her son. |
