RARE TORTOISE SEIZEDMadikeri July 19, 2010 Police Forest mobile squad has seized three rare tortoises from people trying to sell them and arrested them. The squad led by Sub Inspector Harishchandra rounded up a TATA SUMO vehicle yesterday here and arrested two persons in the crime. He driver reportedly fled the scene. According to police, the trio was trying to sell the rare tortoise with three fingers valued at rupees one lakh. The arrested accused Bhaskar and Udaya from Arakalgod told police that they collected the tortoise from Basavapatna near Ramanathpur in Hassan district while a de silting of a lake was going on. They arrived at Kodagu to sell them as they expected good market for it here. Strange creatures like tortoise with three legs, snakes with two heads, white owl are in demand as people are buying them with a belief that they bring luck. IGP TO VISITIGP southern range, A.N.S.Murthy will visit Kodagu on this thirtieth. According to Superintendent of Police, Manjunath Annigeri, the IGP will hold public contact meeting at Somwarpet patrika Bhavan. OPPOSITION TRYING TO TOPPLE GOVERNMENTMLA Appachu ranjan has said that the opposition parties, Congress and JDs are trying to topple the government by adopting various means. Taking part in a felicitation ceremony at Kushalnagar yesterday, Ranjan opined that only five companies were given permission to start mining by the BJP government and remaining were all issued by the erstwhile governments. Ranjan said that the government was getting only rupees thirty crores as tax through mining and it is getting rupees four hundred crores now. The congress is behaving like a fish out of water after losing power, he commented. |
