PLASTIC FREE VIRAJPET FROM AUGUST 15THMadikeri July 22, 2010 Come August 15th, and Virajpet Taluk may turn plastic free. A decision to ban plastic at Virajpet taluk was taken at the meeting held by the Gram Panchayaths of Virajpet taluk including the Virajpet Town Panchayath at Gonicoppal on Tuesday. The meeting has urged the business community to get rid of plastic by August fifteenth and turn Virajpet taluk plastic free. Presidents and office bearers of the Gram Panchayaths who were present in the meeting agreed to implement the idea. A teacher Krishna Chaitanya addressed the meeting and said that burning of plastic will spread cancer. The burning will produce Dioxin, which may produce lung cancer, he cautioned. He also informed that continued use of water preserved in plastic bottles may also cause cancer. He advised to use paper and cloth bags and discard plastic bags. Divakar Shetty from EMBARK organization urged to ban usage of plastic plates and cups in weddings and functions. Ramavathy, president of Gonicoppa Gram panchayath and various other presidents and vice presidents were present. POLICE TO USE INTERNET TO TACKLE CRIMEA high level meeting of police officers was held at Mysore recently and decided that the Police department will use hi tech methods and internet facility to track and control crimes effectively. Discussions were held as to how to curb crimes across borders.The Inspector general, southern zone, A.S.N.Murthy chaired the meeting and said that the districts falling under the zone should be well equipped with intelligence reports and change the methods of collecting reports by improving the devices. The meeting focused mainly on the situations at Mysore city, Kodagu and other district officers were present. Superintendent of police, Manjunath Annigeri told that such meetings are often held to protect law and collect informations. |
