PROBLEMS GALLORE AT KUTTA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER;

Madikeri July 23, 2010

Problems galore at Kutta Community health center. The residents here complain that the officials are neglecting Kutta as it is a town bordering Kerala.

Mismanagement and misappropriation in the center is also suspected, as per the Gram Panchyath chiefs. The inmates undergoing treatment here complain that only one doctor is there to look after them. Hospital does not use the generator even if power goes off. It does not have an ambulance. But the authorities draw about rupees six thousand each month for diesel! Former president of the Gram Panchayath, Mukkatira Navin Aiyyappa, voce president Gopalakrishna, member Mukkatira Shivu Madappa and Lathif alleged that mismanagement has become the order of the day here and the district administration is not bothered to improve the center. They also allege that about two hundred patients visit the center each day as out patients and rupees two each was collected from them. But no account is kept for it.

The only doctor, Changulanda Poovaiah, shouldering the burden of four other doctors, whose posts are vacant states that the center has a shortage of 44 varieties of medicines. The indent sent for the medicines catch dust in the DHOs office. The Gram Panchayath has also made several requests to send medicines and also to fill the vacant posts in vain.

Mukkatira navin listed out the kinds of ‘virus’ that has attacked the center. According to him, the ambulance belonging to the center, which was sent for repair, is missing since a long time. A jeep belonging to this place was repaired by spending thousands and kept in the garage in a dilapidated condition. Rupees 4.5 lakhs being released for the building maintenance was not used and the building looks feeble and shabby with no repair and white wash. Though rupees fifteen thousand was drawn for bulbs and other maintenance, the center looks horrible with no maintenance.

A water tank was built during 80s as the then Chief minister R.Gundu rao took personel interest. The tank has the capacity to store 99 thousand liters of water. Sadly enough, the tank is in a sinking position again with no maintenance. The leakage of water often creates shortage.The in patients suffer without water even in the bath room.

The government quarters meant for the staff is occupied by others. The health department has carelessly allotted the houses to employees from kanur Gram panchayath and outside. This is also another reason for the vacant posts, people allege.

The district administration has to seriously look into the drawbacks and provide proper service to rural people.
