RAIN DISTURBED NORMAL LIFEMadikeri July 26: Heavy rain commencing during early hours today disturbed the normal life in Madikeri town, thaluk and Bhagamandala areas.Rain continued till 2 P.M and suddenly gave a break.In Madikeri town water entered shops in busstand area. A huge earth erosion caused dangerous situation in private busstand area. The edges of the newly built road had collapsed a week back. However Madikeri City municipal council did not bothered to do anything to set right it. The C.M.C has connected the water drainage pipe to this portion during the concrete road construction recently and all the downward water in the area falls on this earthen portion dampening it and caused the erosion. The pipe line has to be extended downwards touching the pond flowing beneath so that no damage will be done -suggests experts Today a huge portion touching the concrete road is collapsed and it invites danger as heavy vehicles also move on this road. Yesterday night a santro car is toppled and fell in a big ditch on the road side which was created during the road widening by the KRDCL and whereabouts of the owner or driver not known till today evening.No body is interested to lift the vehicle. In Bhagamndala area cauvery is raising after heavy rain during the morning hours today. But, the break during afternoon stopped the overflow of the river. Shanivarsanthe in Somwarpet thaluk received heavy rain today recording 69 m.m,.s. of rainfall.Today’s average rainfall in the district is 33 m.ms This year from January till today the rainfall is 930 m.ms. Last year it was 1700 m.ms Harangi reservoir level has reached 2846 feet.The maximum level is 2859 feet. Last year the same day the water level was 2858 feet.. PHOTOS EARTH EROSION IN BUS STAND, MADIKERI SANTRO CAR FELL IN DITCH JOURNALISM SHOULD TAP THE HEART;Madikeri July 26 A journalist should not consider his job as mere professin and should touch the hearts of the people and respond to the voices of downtrodden, said Ashok Nijagannavar, the district and Sessions judge. One can be called as a true journalist only if he understands the pulse of the masses, he opined. Ashok Nijagannavar was addressing the gathering after inaugurating Press Day yesterday, organised by the district working journalists association at Madikeri. He said that the press should immediately bring to light the vilation of human rights and the court will act upon it. Superintendent of police, manjunath Annigeri spoke on the occasion and said that the Fourth estate of the constitution has much to do in the society and it can streamline the other pillars of the constitution. He regretted that the field of journalism is also earning black marks and it should emerge clean to serve the society. Asistant professor of journalism from manasa gangotri, Niranjana Vanalli addressed the gathering and said that there are forces trying to cut to size the strength of journalism in the society. As long as we hold to priciples and safeguard our persobnality, other forces cannot shake us, he said. The moment we sell ourselves, the strength of journalism will turn into a damp squib, he asserted. He opined that the Breaking News trend in the visual media is turning out to be the story of "wolf" he narrated. Journalism is weakenign its strength due to this thoughtless trend, he feared.
