HARANGI GATES OPEN, PARTS OF KODAGU IN WATERS

The crest gates of Harangi were thrown open yesterday after the incessant rainfall continues since two days. The Deputy Commissioner Ashwathnarayana Gowda has instructed the district officials to be on alert to tackle flood situations. People living in low lying areas and around Harangi reservoir are being vacated and temporary shelters have been arranged.

Schools in and around Bhagamandala was closed as water inundates roads and paddy fields. Transport and traffic at Bhagamandala is severely hit as gushing waters could be seen all over. Holiday to schools at Bhagamandala was declared yesterday as half the students could not reach classes.

Roads to Aiyyengeri, Napoklu and few other villages are blocked. Huge landslide has occurred in Makutta road, which is being cleared at war footing. Minor landslides and falling of trees in many parts have become the order of the day.

Cluster of villages like hammiyala, hacchinadu, kotebetta and others at the foothills of Pushpagiri hills are almost cut off from the main towns. The rough roads formed in the terrains to reach these villages have slid down in many parts. The main approach ropad is also submerged in floods. Hundreds opf acres of paddy fields are also inudated.

Owing to the incessant rainfall creating havoc, the district administration, after holding an emergency meeting has declared two days holiday to schools and First grade colleges.

Rivers and streams are over flowing with harangi reservoir throbbing with gushing inflow.

CM'S P.S QUIPS PADAYATRA AS A DANCE MELA;

Political secretary to the Chief minister Yediyurappa, B.J.Puttaswamy today narrated the paadayatra by congress as a 'dance mela'.

Addressing scribes at kushalnagar after visiting harangi reservoir, he lambasted the congress party by stating that they are unnecessarily creating ruckus in the state through unwanted paadayatra and allegations. he called upon the Congress leaders to stop the march immediately.

President of the State Gaaniga Sanga, M.R.rajashekar gaaniga, Krishi Morcha president taakeri ponnappa and local BJP leaders were present.
