STATE SUPER DIVISION HOCKEY IN KODAGU

Coorg Hockey Association will hold the State Super Division Hockey League Championship at Madikeri from March 27.

Announcing this in a press conference here today, chairman of the CHA, Mohan Aiyappa said that the prestigious championship, which was usually held at Bangalore is allotted to kodagu by the state Hockey association.

Mohan Aiyappa said that the reason for holding the state event is that madikeri has a synthetick turf ground now, since a long time, no major hockey event has taken place in Kodagu and people of kodagu have contributed a lot to national hockey.

In all 14 teams will take part in the tournament, they are; MEG, ASC, PCTC, ARMY X GREEN, IAF, CENTRAL ESCISE, HAL, SAI, KSP, CANARA BANK, FORTIS, ARMY IX RED, BPCL AND IOCL.

Last year the winner and runner up were iocl and bpcl respectively.

Some of the Indian team players likey to take part are Bharath Chetri, V.R.raghunath, Dhanajjay madhik, Ignes, Tirkey, Vikramkanth, Thushar Kandekar, Deepak Thakur, Prabhojith Singh, Rajpal Singh.

The championship will be played in two phases. The first phase will be played from 27th march to 6th April and the second from 7th to 18th April.

Prize money for the first three ranked teams will be rupees 1.50 lakhs, rupees 1 lakh and rupees 50 thousand respectively. Individual team trophies and individual prizes will also be given.

Vice presidents of the CHA, Venu Uthappa and Puchimada Harish, secretary K.P.Subramani, KSHA vice president were also were present.
