Correspondent of The Hindu newspaper from Kodagu, Jeevan Chinnappa is assigned for International hockey tournament being held at New Delhi.

Jeevan Chinnappa, who was chosen by All India Radio on earlier occasions as a commentator has now taken him for the International hockey event. His voice could be heard in All India radio.

Chinnappa, who has played and seen hockey from rural to national level, told this correspondent that the one time masters of hockey, India and Pakistan have lost luster and quality. He fears that the hockey may even disappear from Asian sub continent. He said that the countries from other continents have been improving their speed and skill in hockey, prepared to face any challenges.

Jeevan Chinnappa shared his experience of commentating in the international hockey at present. He informed that the security in the areas is so high that even journalists have to pass through five security checks. People are not allowed to carry even coins and water bottles, let alone horns and drums being used to trumpet.

MARIA AS TP PRESIDENT;

Maria Sequera has become the president of Virajpet Town Panchayath.

The place of the president was vacant as the erstwhile president Kanthi Belliappa was removed through no confidence motion recently.

Election officer Hanumantharayappa declared yesterday that Maria Sequera is elected as the president as there were no other contestants. She was chosen amongst the sixteen members as she was the only reserve candidate having eligibility.

BJP members were absent during the election. Former president M.K.Poovaiah, former vice president Moinuddin spoke on the occasion.
