FIVE HELD FOR RAPE AND MURDER

Five persons were arrested and another has absconded, accused of rape and murder.

Srimangala police have disclosed here yesterday that the investigation into the unidentified naked body found at Srimangala during January end in a decomposed state has led to the arrest. According to them, a Tribal woman Kembi, 30 was gangraped by six accused who later strangled her to death. Her dresses were removed by the accused to cover the clue.

The accused are Tribes Noonja, raju, mani, Ramu, Bogge and kariya. While the first five accused are arrested by police yesterday, Karia alias Kaipe is absconding.

GOVERNEMNT TO RE INTRODUCE GANGMEN

Speaker K.G.Bopaiah has said that the government is thinking of re introducing Gangmen to undertake road repair and maintenance work, at least in Kodagu.

Bopaiah was addressing people yesterday at Nalkeri village after inaugurating series of works. He said that the roads in Kodagu need attention and he has spoken to the Public Woeks Department minister about the need to have gangmen atleast to Kodagu. Roads used to be in good condition when gangmen from PWD used to attend to repair works often.

Bopaiah said that the power crisis in the state would be solved in a week’s time and government has reserved rupees 1200 crores for the purpose. The power crisis is increasing due to the bad decisions of the past governments, he commented.

JUMPS TO DEATH

A drunken man at siddapur jumped to death at Siddapur yesterday.

According to police, Chinnaswamy aged 58 had carried a bottle of alchohal and lunch to the river bed yesterday afternoon. Having food and finishing the bottle, Chinnaswamy slipped into the river.

The deceased leaves wife and a daughter.
