MOTHER, DAUGHTER KILLED IN LAKE

In a tragic incident, a mother and a daughter died drowned in a lake at Maldare.

A twelve year old Subhashini was washing cloths in a lake with her sister yesterday and slipped into water accidentally, her sister tried in vain to pull her out and Subhashini got caught in the slush. She ran home and brought her mother back.

Mother Ratna, 38, jumped into water to pull her daughter out. As the fate would have it, the water with slush at its base pulled them both down. Mother and daughter disappeared from the sight in minutes.

Villagers and the girl’s father were dipped in sorrow as the bodies were frisked out.

Sub inspector Ratan Singh visited the spot and registered a case.

MINORITIES TAKE BACK SEAT IN INDIA

President of the Kodava national Council, N.U.Nachappa told at Gonicoppal that minorities are not being recognized in India.

Nachappa was addressing the 19th anniversary of his fight under various garbs like LIWAK, fighting for separate state and now for the constitutional guarantee exclusively for Kodavas.

Nachappa opined that minorities are receiving recognition all over the world and in India, Kodavas are denied of it. He said that his fight to get constitutional guarantee, minority status announcement as Kodava Land will continue till they achieve success.

Nachappa said that Kodavas need political reservation and he will also fight to get special reservation for Kodava women. He regretted that the number of Kodavas which existed during C state status of kodagu is decreasing now. Since inter caste marriages are a bane, that should be stopped, he insisted.

Major Bachamada Cariappa spoke on the occasion and said that Kodavas are gifted with special arms right during British rule and the present governments cannot snatch the special privilege.

A procession was taken out in the main street of Gonicoppa. Kalianda Prakash welcomed the gathering. Nisha and group rendered invocation.Ajjikuttira Lokesh proposed vote of thanks.

STATUE GETTING READY;

The statue was brought yesterday and it is being fixed. Cauvery sene convenor Ravi Chengappa told that it will be inaugurated by the majors’ brother during the month of may as he has to come from abroad.
