IRREGULARITIES IN MINOR IRRIGATION ALLEGEDMadikeri March 24, 2010 Vice president of Zilla panchayath, kanjitanda Anita alleged irregularities in the minor irrigation department. She lambasted the irrigation department officer in the KDP meeting held here yesterday and said that irrigation related schemes are suffering due to their negligence. The works are of sub standard, she accused and other members also felt the same. The meeting chaired by the ZP president Vijaya formed a committee to conduct and enquiry. The committee involving Anitha, Manu Muthappa, H.B.Ganesh and the executive engineer was formed in the meeting and asked to submit a report by next meeting. Various issues came for discussion. Sub committee chairman raja Rao complained that the food being distributed to Anganavadis and to the pregnents’ is of sub standard. He urged the president to issue strict instructions to the CDPOs to supply quality material. Sub committee chairman (Education) Manu Muthappa said that the numbering system of the gas cylinders should be lifted. He also mentioned that the villagers of Abburukatte have to walk eight kilometers to fetch two liters of kerosene and a fair price shop has to be opened there. Chief Executive Officer Mirza Akbarulla was also present. GP PROPOSES NEW BUSTANDThe gonicoppal Gram panchayath has submitted an action plan to construct a bustand at a cost of rupees 3.2 crores. Vice president of the Gram panchayath, B.N.Prakash called a press conference at gonicoppal and said that a delegation will visit the bustand at Kannanur to verify the plans to adopt here and the speaker K.G.Bopaiah has submitted the plan to the government for approval. Prakash said that the Panchayath has taken precautions to tackle drinking water problem in the town and appealed to people to use water with care. President M.P.Ramavathy, development officer T.D.Eshwar were also present. DC INSPECTS MAKUTTA ROADThe deputy commissioner Ashwathnarayan Gowda yesterday visited makutta and inspected the road work in progress. The Makutta road in dilapidated condition is closed for vehicular traffic since months. Dc said that sixty percent of the work is over and the road would be ready for partial use by May end. The executive engineer Ravikumar stated that the work was delayed due to shortage of materials. Added to it, elephants keep roaming in Makutta region in open even during day light. The workers fear to work here, he said. Makutta road connects Kodagu and Kerala. SYNTHETIC TURF READY TO HOST SUPER DIVISION HOCKEYMadikeri March 22, 2010 Stage is all set to host Super division Hockey at Synthetic turf ground at Madikeri and gallery is getting ready. Addressing a press conference here, chairman of the Coorg Hockey Association, Nellamakkada Aiyyappa said that fourteen renowned hockey teams would be playing in the tournament. He said that the date is postponed from 27th march to April 3rd as BPCL and IOCL teams are engaged in other tournaments. He disclosed that the event is jointly organized by Sports Authority of India and Coorg Hockey Association at a cost of rupees thirty lakhs. Huge trophies are donated by Vinodh Uthappa of Deepa Buildings Systems. Maneyapanda family, hosting the family Hockey Festival this season is donating rupees five lakhs and Lavin brothers one lakh. Mohan Aiyyappa told that they are approaching sponsorers. A gallery to house ten thousand people is built at a cost of rupees ten lakh. The winning team will get rupees 1.5 lakh cash prize. Second prize would be rupees one lakh and the third will receive rupees fifty thousand. Rest of the teams will all receive a cash prize of rupees twenty thousand each. Administrator of the Sports Authority of India, Prince Karumbaiah told that a proposal of rupees one crore to build a permanent gallery to hold ten thousand audience is submitted to the central government and the approval is awaited. CHA treasurer Yashwanth and director Kalappa were present. AFTER HOCKEY AND CRICKET, NOW ITS’ FAMILY GOLF!After etching a niche in the sports arena by holding family hockey and cricket, now the Kandratanda family has come out with an idea of conducting Golf Tournament. Col (Rtd.) Kandratanda C.Subbaiah has informed that the tournament would be held on April 3rd and 4th at Golf Links Bittangala. Unlike Kodava hockey and cricket, any players from Kodagu can join Kodava teams to play. An event is organized even for children below fourteen. |
