BALELE BANDH AGAINST BOOK REMARKMadikeri march 30 Various organizations led by Kodava Samaj yesterday held bandh at Balele and condemned the book published by Dr.Somanna hurting their feelings. A procession was taken out in the main road and a memorandum urging to ban the book ‘Dalitara Novu Nalivu” was submitted to the speaker K.G.Bopaiah. Protestors alleged that the author has twisted the facts and hurt the sentiments of Kodavas and he has also insulted their costumes and customs. President of Kodava Samaj, Malachira Bose informed that a memorandum to ban the book was already given to the Deputy Commissioner Ashwathnarayana Gowda and an ultimatum of fifteen days was served to implement it. He said that the protest would be spread to district level, if action is not taken. Zilla panchayath member Ranjan Chengappa, Aramanamada Satish, Chimmanamada Krishna addressed the gathering and condemned the book. The protestors met speaker K.G.Bopaiah at his office at Ponnampet and read the derogatory remarks of the book for him. Bopaiah spoke to district and state PU board officials and asked them to conduct an enquiry, submit a report immediately. He said that the officials should initiate legal action against the lecturer for publishing a book without their permission, before law and order situation arises. OFFICER ARRIVES;District Assistant director of PU board, Cheluvaiah rushed to Balele junior college today and took the statements of the principal and staff. JAYAKARNATAKA JEEP SEIZED;A jeep belonging to the Jayakarnataka association here was seized yesterday night. Town sub inspector Durga told that a lady Chondavva has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the association president Prasanna and his team attacked her two sons Ganesh and Navin on the night of 28th and threatened to kill them They have also snatched a mobile and jewelry from the duo, she has said. Jayakarnataka team had captured a gang transporting cows on the night of 28th. Police arrested the above two youth and two others in connection with the illegal transportation and theft of cows. However, police have registered cases against Prasanna Bhat and others based on Chondavvas complaint and are looking for them. Meanwhile, president of K.Nidugane Gram panchayath, nagaratna Chinnappa and former president Deen Bopanna in a press comference have alleged that jayakarnataka office bearers are creating tention in their village by fencing lands and threatening people. They alleged that the association office bearers are blackmailing people. FARMER COMMITTS SUICIDE;Chotteyandamada Chandra, 58 has committed suicide yesterday at his estate at T.Shettigeri. Chandra shot himself to death at the estate, unable to bear the burden of the debt, his family said. He leaves wife and two children. |
