Shakthi, the pioneer Kannada Daily of Kodagu district and a premier newspaper has the distinction of flourishing with the largest circulation in the district. General public receives the newspaper with trust, confidence and enthusiasm in view of its unassailable quality, integrity, solidarity and promptness in reporting news, etc., Shakthi reaches every nook and corner of the district, apart from the capital town, Madikeri and the Taluk towns of Virajpet & Somwarpet. Despite Kodagu being the smallest district in the state, we are gratified that there are subscribers for Shakthi in 200 plus villages of the district. In addition, the newspaper has extensive circulation in the neighbouring Dakshina Kannada, Hassan and Mysore districts. The newspaper also enjoys a unique distinction of getting distributed through the postal service to the readers in Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi and other important cities in India. Besides publishing the daily news items, events and a tapestry of luminous episodes, etc., prominence is also given to the opinions expressed by the general public on current affairs which are a necessary pleasure to the reader. Several intricate and complex problems of the society are highlighted in the newspaper and the attention of the concerned authorities are drawn to these issues and redressal measures are taken expeditiously. This way, Shakthi has contributed to the development of Kodagu. Shakthi had the privilege of grabbing the highest number of state level awards in recent years, for investigation, wildlife, social cause reports etc., by Karnataka Working Journalists Association, Bangalore. Its founder editor Late Sri. B.S.Gopala Krishna was a Rajyotsava and Patrika academy awardee. It is our pride to state that many journalists, who served with Shakthi, have been placed in the state and the national level media organizations. Shakthi celebrated its 50th anninversary (Golden Jubilee) during March 2007. Many programmes to help people in different fields, concrete projects to help the development of Kodagu were executed with the active participation of the people of Kodagu who are residing all over the globe. We published an attractive, colouful crown 1/4 size souvenir on this Special occasion. The souvenir consists the most informative, special and preservable articles for all classes of people.
